HOW TO APPLY FOR AN INTERNATIONAL DRIVING PERMIT: STEP BY STEP

STEP 1

Start by filling out an application.

STEP 2

Then, take a copy of your Swedish driver’s license, both front and back. For this to be valid it has to be certified by two witnesses with their signatures, addresses, and phone numbers

STEP 3

For email applications, attach a recent portrait photo of yourself (JPG format).

For applications by mail, include a recent photo (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) printed on photo paper with your name on the back.

STEP 4

Send your application to us with either mail or e-mail.

Both addresses can be found at the bottom of the application form.

Start your application by following steps 1–4 above. Then, make the payment by clicking below. We will begin processing your international driving permit once we have received both the application and payment.

Alternatively, you can send them by traditional mail to the address at the bottom of the page.

ISSUING AND DELIVERY

Once we have received your application and payment, issuing a permit can take up to 5 business days. In case of high pressure the handling time might increase since we prioritize by day of departure.

When a permit has been issued, we send it back to you with A-post with PostNord to your mailbox. Note that holidays and weekends may delay the delivery of your International driving permit.

We are also available for those who live in or near Malmö for scheduled personal visits only. To make an appointment call: 040-264 750. Payment can only be made by Swish.

International driving permit (standard handling within 5 working days excluding postage): 390 kr

International driving permit, fast processing. We issue your international drivers permit within 48 hours (during regular office days, exluding postage): 790 kr

Personal visit at KAK office in Stockholm. We issue your international driving permit while you wait: 990 kr

Standard postage is included in our prices both in Sweden and abroad. We are also able to send your international drivers permit with traceable mail within Sweden for a cost of: 100 kr

GOOD TO KNOW

There are two types of international driving permits: 1-year permits and 3-year permits. Specifications on which permit is required varies between countries, but many countries accept both. USA and Japan are however examples of countries who only accept 1-year permits.

The period of validity for an international driving permit never exceeds the period of your Swedish license.
