What is an International Driving Permit?

An international driving permit is a document that translates your national driver’s license into multiple languages and allows you to drive vehicles in other countries according to international conventions.

Do I need an international driving permit to drive abroad?

This depends on the country you are visiting. Most countries outside the EU require an international driving permit, while countries within the EU accept your national driver’s license.

How long does it take to get an international driving permit?

It takes about five working days from the time we receive your application and payment. Don’t forget that postal delivery time is additional.

Is there a price difference between a 1-year and a 3-year international driving permit?

No, the price is the same regardless of which permit you need.

Can I get an international driving permit if I have a driver’s license issued in a country other than Sweden?

No, you must have a Swedish driver’s license for us to assist you.

Can I apply for an IDP if my Swedish driver’s license expires within one or three years?

Yes, but the validity of your IDP will not exceed the expiration date of your Swedish driver’s license.

How do I know if I need a 1-year or a 3-year IDP?

How much does an international driving permit cost?

It depends on how quickly you need it—we offer three pricing tiers ranging from 390 SEK to 990 SEK.There are also additional fees if you want to speed up postal delivery.

Is the price the same for a 1-year and a 3-year IDP?

Yes, the price is the same.

What are the requirements for the photo that must be attached?

The photo must have a light and neutral background, and your face should be clearly visible.

How do I email the photo?

Please send the image in JPEG or JPG format. We will adjust the size and print it on photo paper.

What does a certified copy of the driver’s license mean?

It means that two people must verify your identity.

What should be written on the certified copy?

It should state: ”I certify that this copy corresponds to the original.”
It must then be signed with a signature, address, and phone number.

What do I need to do to apply for an international driving permit?

Send or email a completed application, a certified copy (signed by two people) of your driver’s license, and a photo of yourself.

I need an international driving permit on short notice. What options do you offer?

We accept pre-booked visits at our office in Stockholm and can issue the permit on the spot. This service is also available in Malmö.

Why do I get an error message, “syntax error,” when trying to place an order in the cart?

This happens because you haven’t accepted cookies. At the bottom left corner of the website, click on the ”Consent Settings” icon and accept them. You will then be able to complete your order and proceed to checkout.

How will my permit be sent to me?

We send it via regular A-mail with PostNord, directly to your mailbox. No need to pick it up at a service point.

Can you send my IDP to a different address than my own?

Yes, absolutely! But it’s important to provide a clear address, including an extra name like ”c/o” if your name is not on the door or mailbox.

Can you email me the international driving permit?

No, it is a paper booklet that must be sent by mail and carried with you physically, along with your Swedish driver’s license, for it to be valid.

Which languages is the international driving permit translated into?

English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai, Arabic, Chinese, Russian.

Why isn’t my language included in the translation?

This is an international agreement and standard that we cannot change.
